2022-2023 Kindergarten / Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Planning
We look forward to welcoming your child to kindergarten for the 2022-2023 school year! Please complete the following survey if your child will be 5 years old by September 15, 2022. Your feedback will assist the district in planning for the future. If you are interested in Transitional Kindergarten (TK), this is the correct form. There are questions pertaining to TK embedded within this survey. Students must meet the September 15th age cutoff and your request for TK does not guarantee your child(ren) a spot in the program. We will use your feedback, the preschool teacher's recommendations (if available), and our spring observation/rubric to determine their educational placement.

If you are considering open enrolling your child into the Van Meter School district, please note that you will need to complete an open enrollment application in addition to this survey. Filing out the open enrollment application does not guarantee a spot in kindergarten. The school board will decide on the open enrollment applications between April and August. For questions regarding open enrollment and the open enrollment process (forms, dates, paperwork, ...) please contact Shonna Trudo (Shonna.Trudo@vmbulldogs.com).

Transitional kindergarten (TK) is a program for students that are old enough to attend kindergarten, but not quite ready for kindergarten. Students would attend TK and then kindergarten the following school year. The schedule is the same as a kindergarten student but at a developmentally appropriate pace. Placement in the program is based on the preschool teacher's recommendation, developmental skills (academic, social, and emotional learning), parent feedback, and kindergarten roundup observations.
