The Department of Theatre and Dance is now accepting applications for department merit scholarships.  Please complete this form and submit your supporting materials to rmikusko@scu.edu. Then choose your preferred time for an online Zoom group interview on either Saturday, January 18, 10-11am PT or Tuesday, January 21, 5-6pm PT.
 
THEATRE
Acting students should prepare two contrasting monologues, one from a play and one other. The combined monologues should be no more than two minutes in length. You may also sing if you wish. The song should be from a musical and can either be up-tempo or a ballad between 16 and 32 bars.
 
THEATRE DESIGN/ TECHNOLOGY/ STAGE MANAGEMENT
Students should send a DVD, CD or link to an online portfolio of any design or technical work you have done in costumes, lighting, sets, props, etc. For example, we would like to see drawings, paintings or photographs of props that you have made, sets you helped construct or paint, and costumes that you have constructed. If you are interested in Stage Management, please send a scanned section from a recent prompt book. When you are interviewed, be ready to explain what sort of run crew positions you have filled.

PLAYWRITING, DIRECTING, HISTORY or LITERATURE students should send written samples of work.

DANCE
Dance students should demonstrate a standard series of exercises that comprise a typical ballet barre: pliés, tendus dégagés, développés, and battements. It is not necessary to show each exercise on both sides of the body, although a side camera angle is preferred for the plies, and a more frontal angle is preferred for later exercises. This assists in demonstrating your overall body placement. Demonstrate your dance ability by performing two to three minutes of choreography. This is best shown in a studio with good lighting, rather than an excerpt from a live performance where often the quality may be insufficient. If desired, an additional clip of the student in a performance can be included.
