1. You just found out your cousin served in the Revolutionary War. Now you're ready to: *

A) Find out all you can about his military service. What if he served under your favorite president, George Washington?

B) See if you can find any articles about his life, even if they were written years after his death in 1826.

C) Look him up in early U.S. censuses, hoping you find out who his neighbors were at the time.

2. Your grandfather served in the Civil War, and while you know his regiment's name, you're unsure of much else. You most want to find: *

A) His service information--when he was present, absent, or sick. When it comes to your grandpa's military service, you want to leave no stone unturned.

B) Accounts of the battles his regiment may have participated in or casualty lists.

C) A transcribed sheet of what company your ancestor served in, as well as after-battle reports written by his regiment's officers.

3. Your uncle served in the navy back in World War II. Although you've heard stories about his services, you're looking to delve deeper. You're determined to find: *

A) Documents where he signed up for the draft--you want to know everything, from his height and weight to his hair and eye color.

B) Contemporary or later articles about your uncle's time in service. You really want to find his name mentioned among other sailors from your county!

C) Individual documents that list the name of your uncle's boat, where it was docked, and more. Information like that would be a total score!

4. One of your neighbors asked if you could help them find information on their relative who served in World War I. They didn't elaborate on the details they're wanting, but you decide you'll: *

A) Stick with the military basics! Draft records should have details about his appearance, which your neighbor will probably find intriguing.

B) Search for personal stories about this soldier's life. You'll be elated if you find out he lived right in your town at any point!

C) Mainly research their relative's civilian life. Nothing's off limits--you're scouring censuses, wills, and marriage records in your quest!

5. When you research, you're more likely to: *

A) Focus on a specific area of a person's life--you don't have to know where they lived and their occupations, you just have to know about big life changes or events.

B) Hunt for easy-to-read information that may have been previously compiled, either at the time your ancestor was alive or 100 years later.

C) Learn anything you can! But while you may research multiple parts of your ancestor's life, you don't always feel like you have to learn all you can about their military service.
