If you treat – or would like to treat – firefighters, it's important to learn the mental & emotional warning signs they could be experiencing after one of these events, and how to address them. This training for providers will cover:
  • The differences between traumatic situations, critical incidents and emergency response
  • How to identify the mental, emotional and physical symptoms when someone is in distress
  • Tips and evidence-based techniques for calming someone who is in and out of the “window of tolerance,” or in the fight or flight
  • Motivational interviewing tactics for de-escalating high risk situations
  • Working within our scope of practice and knowing when to seek help
  • Various treatment approaches for traumatic situations, critical incidents and emergency response, and how to get more training
  • Creating a community
  • Resources for providing additional support for aftercare
  • Self-care
Minnesota Firefighter Initiative (MnFIRE) Medical Director Melinda Coscarelli will present this three-hour provider training. This session is approved for 3.0 CMEs by the Minnesota Board of Behavioral Health and Therapy and MN Board of Social Work.
