If you treat – or would like to treat – firefighters, it's important to learn the mental & emotional warning signs they could be experiencing after one of these events, and how to address them. This training for providers will cover:
- The differences between traumatic situations, critical incidents and emergency response
- How to identify the mental, emotional and physical symptoms when someone is in distress
- Tips and evidence-based techniques for calming someone who is in and out of the “window of tolerance,” or in the fight or flight
- Motivational interviewing tactics for de-escalating high risk situations
- Working within our scope of practice and knowing when to seek help
- Various treatment approaches for traumatic situations, critical incidents and emergency response, and how to get more training
- Creating a community
- Resources for providing additional support for aftercare
- Self-care
Minnesota Firefighter Initiative (MnFIRE) Medical Director Melinda Coscarelli will present this three-hour provider training.
