COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The two books of Maccabees form an important narrative bridge in the Bible by giving an account of the history of the people of Israel during the period between the end of the ministry of the classical prophets and the dawning of the era of the New Covenant. In Maccabees, we witness the development of the theology of righteous martyrdom, a theology that will have its culmination in Jesus’ death on the cross, and its continuation in the suffering perseverance of the Church through history. In this latter respect it provides important lessons and guidance for the sufferings of the Church and individual Christians in the present day*. Don’t miss this rare chance to study and learn from the Maccabees whose desire to live in faith was more valuable than life itself!!
