ALIGNED Consultation Woodworking Sector

This consultation is meant to gather information on the sector's perspectives regarding environmental impact assessment: "What are the environmental impacts, how do we measure them and how can these assessment methods be improved?".

In the ALIGNED project we plan to improve the methods of assessing the environmental impacts of bio-based industries, including the woodworking sector.

It will take you about 10 minutes to fill in this survey and your answer will help us gain further insight into the woodworking sector and its sustainability.

We are grateful for your input. For further information about the ALIGNED project, please visit our website

You are participating as a member of the whole sector, not as a representative of a company. We will only publish your input in an anonymized, aggregated format. For more information on our privacy policy, click here.

Wood additives

As wood is the main material within the woodworking sector, the sector is already largely bio-based. However, most woodworking products include additives. These could be preservatives to protect the wood against biological degradation or fire, coatings for protection or for appearance, adhesives to join wood products and give greater dimensions of wood available, and other non-wood materials to improve the performance of the product. The following questions will give us an indication of the current status of bio-based additives in the woodworking sector.

13. What are possible opportunities to increasing the use of bio-based additives within the woodworking sector? Please explain why you think so.

14. What would be needed, in terms of research and innovation, to boost the use of bio-based additives in the woodworking sector?

15. The ALIGNED project is looking at the woodworking sector and at LCA methodology. What - in your view -, could the ALIGNED project do to improve environmental assessment of bio-based products?
Optional: What is your field of occupation within woodworking?

Optional: Which country are you working in?
