Program Overview

SRBCC realizes its program philosophy by developing multidisciplinary experiences, with a strong focus on the youth, that highlight the presence of African cultures in Puerto Rico and Latin America. SRBCC celebrates Afro-Puerto Rican and Afro-Latino cultural traditions through dance, music, theater, creative writing, visual arts and culinary arts.

SRBCC believes that excellence in arts education is directly tied to a safe, student-centered learning environment that offers a wide variety of approaches, using https://forms.gle/7Wpf9TumLJ98jjts5 mediums (hands-on workshops, visiting artists, field trips, open discussion, and film).

Our Summer Youth Employment, Apprenticeship, Internships and Interdisciplinary media experiences designed for ages 14-24 yrs, are free of cost paid creative opportunities for youth in the arts. Participants will be given daily hands-on experiences, resources and tools to explore the arts through an interdisciplinary lens.

Summer Youth Camp (Ages 8-13) | July 5- July 15 | 9AM to 12PM | Free of Cost
Two-week long experience designed for youth 8 to 13 yrs of age. This arts journey will be free of cost to participants living in Hermosa and its surrounding neighborhoods. Our interdisciplinary program includes storytelling, circus arts, dance, percussion, digital photography, and film.

This summer SRBCC will continue its long standing partnership with After School Matters (ASM) and bring to specialized paid options to our youth:

Advance AfroCaribbean Jazz Ensemble (Ages 16-20) | 20 hours a week | pays $15 per hour*
Bomba Youth Apprentice (Ages 14-15) | 12 hours a week | Stipend based | pays $420*
Apprentice Program Assistant (Ages 16-20) | 12 hours a week | Stipend Based | pays $850*

Led by our teaching artists troupe, SRBCC offers an interdisciplinary hands-on arts experience centered on cultural preservation, history and entrepreneurship. This summer season our offering includes:
