Sociology Presents: The 11th Annual Research Showcase and Competition

The Sociology Department invites all students to participate in our annual undergraduate research event this spring. We will recognize student researchers and their faculty mentors with an exhibit of current projects from multiple disciplines across the college. Six cash scholarships will be awarded this year. 

Our annual research event is perfect for students that have:
  • completed a literature review. 
  • completed research or research in progress. 
  • completed traditional papers (including original empirical research, term research papers, and theoretical explorations).
  • completed research posters.
About the submissions:
  • Both individual and group submissions are accepted. 
  • Submissions can be from personal or course related research. 
  • Faculty mentors are encouraged to work with students to submit research. 
  • Research topics should be relevant to Social Sciences, STEM or Humanities/Art.
  • Submission will be an abstract that must summarize the main aims, data (wherever applicable), findings (wherever applicable), and conclusions of the research.
  • The author must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at Mt. San Antonio College.
  • The research cannot have been published.
  • Submission will consist of a 250-400 word abstract.

Event Details
11th Annual Research Showcase and Competition
Date: Wednesday, May 15, 2024
Time: 11:00am - 2:00pm
Location: Summit Event Center in Building 410 (3rd Floor)
  • During our event, all eligible submissions will be showcased (printed, framed, and respectfully displayed). We will have light snacks and refreshments for attendees. We will also display past and current research posters and various sociology projects that promote the value of research.
  • Students attending the showcase will have the opportunity to select their favorite submission from each of three categories (Social Sciences, STEM and Humanities/Art). 
  • Extra credit verification for attending our research event will be available at the check-in table.
Cash Scholarships
There will be six cash scholarships awarded this year. A faculty panel will review, rank, and select one winner in each of the three categories (Social Sciences, STEM and Humanities/Art).  Students attending the showcase will have the opportunity to select their favorite submission from each of three categories (Social Sciences, STEM and Humanities/Art). Winners will be notified via email and their award will be available for pick up in the sociology department one week after the event. 
The awards are as follows:

Scholarship Cash Awards
  1. $100 for SOCIAL SCIENCES, Faculty Selection
  2. $100 for STEM Faculty Selection
  3. $100 for HUMANITIES/ART Faculty Selection
  4. $50 for Peer Favorites - STEM
  5. $50 for Peer Favorites – SOCIAL SCIENCES
  6. $50 for Peer Favorites – HUMANITIES/ART
