Stuyvesant Math Team Interest Form
This form is for INCOMING students only. Current Stuyvesant students should request to join through Talos and can contact Mr. Sterr for more informaiton.

The Stuyvesant Math Team is the largest high school math team in New York City with nearly 200 students on the team. Unlike many schools, Math Team is not just a club at Stuyvesant, but rather it has a full class that takes place every day during 1st period. This class is graded Pass/Fail, and students do earn credit for the class. Many students on the math team will take the Math Team class all four years they are at Stuyvesant, as it provides an opportunity to practice problem solving techniques, learn new topics, work on teamwork, and compete in multiple competitions that are taken during class time. In addition to the class, there are weekly practices on Tuesdays after school for freshmen and sophomores (juniors and seniors meet on Fridays).

Every year, 300-400 incoming freshmen sign up for the math team, so it is simply not possible to accommodate all interested students. If you are not selected, you may still participate in after-school practices and you may apply to join the team in a later semester.

The first round of selections for the fall semester will be made based on the results of the placement exam, which is given during Camp Stuy at Stuyvesant on June 8th. All incoming students take the placement exam. Students selected after the first round will be contacted regarding the next round of selections, which will tentatively take place on Saturday June 17th.

Students who make it through the first round will be contacted using the information on this form, so please be sure we have your correct contact information and also check your email regularly after June 8th to make sure you do not miss any information we send you.

Any student who plans to apply for math team in the future should sign up for and take the AMC 10A examination, which is open to all students and will be held in November.

It is a good idea for all interested students to practice their problem solving by going through past AMC 10 examinations on the Art of Problem Solving website: https://artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.php/AMC_10_Problems_and_Solutions
