Session Description and Speaker Bio

This Check for Understanding question will help you reflect and apply your learning from the session you attended at Conference Week 2021. It will also confirm your attendance in the same.

Personal Leadership Resources to build your Resume: In this session, you will learn about self-efficacy, resilience, optimism and proactivity and how they can contribute to building a resume and having a successful interview. These personal leadership resources are essential in helping deal with the current realities of teaching, learning, and supporting equity and well-being. You will also learn some strategies for developing these personal qualities whether you are a long-term occasional teacher, daily supply teacher or a newly hired permanent teacher.  The session will include opportunities to role-play a sampling of interview questions related to these personal qualities.

This session will be run by three representatives of the Ontario Ministry of Education under their professional development program for teacher candidates. Julie Reid has a background as an Ontario educator including teaching, leading, and resource development at school and system levels and at faculties of education, the Ontario College of Teachers and the Ontario Principals’ Council. Ruth Swan has career experience in the fields of both education and law.  It includes school and system level experiences as well as experiences at a Faculty of Education, the Ontario Teachers’ Federation and TVOntario. Malissa Farnham has been working in the Ministry of Education as a policy analyst since 2014, leading and supporting various files related to school board governance and leadership. You can access more resources for teacher development and learning on the Ontario Ministry of Education website at http://www.edu.gov.on.ca/eng/teachers/.

Note: This session does not follow the requested format of the Conference Week as the last 15 minutes are interview questions and not a q&a.
