ManyBirds Project: Potential ManyBirds Studies

This is a form for submitting proposals for potential ManyBirds Project future studies (www.themanybirds.com).

Full submissions are confidential and will be reviewed by the ManyBirds Core Team Leads in the first instance.

A shortlist of proposals (e.g. title & abstract) will then be shared with the wider ManyBirds collaborators for a vote to determine which proposal(s) may be selected for future ManyBirds studies.

If your proposal is shortlisted, the ManyBirds Core Team Leads will be in touch with you to confirm that you are happy for this to be shared with wider collaborators before doing so. You may choose at this stage to limit the amount of information shared (in title & abstract) or potentially to pre-register the (basics of the) idea first - we are happy to provide guidance if helpful.

Review criteria includes: 1) Adherence with ManyBirds ethos and aims (accessibility, transparency, replicability, inclusivity; testing as many species and subjects as possible/ appropriate for the study focus); 2) Adherence with Open Science practices (e.g. pre-registration, data sharing, pre-printing); 3) Suitability and feasibility for multi-site, multi-species comparisons (e.g. typically aiming for low cost, easily and reliably transferable across sites, including potentially lab, zoo & field, clear protocol, published/demonstrated pilot work); 4) Relevant/ required expertise (e.g. proposers, current ManyBirds Core Team Leads, collaborators).

Please take note of ManyBirds guidelines including authorship: https://themanybirds.com/authorship-guidelines-and-ethics-guidelines. For official ManyBirds studies, for authorship order, we typically list "ManyBirds Project" as first author, then the study X leadership team and then the wider collaborators.

Please also note that the expectation is for proposer(s) and current ManyBirds Core Team Leads to be offered the opportunity to take a Team Lead role within the related Study X Leadership Team, with accompanying authorship. This Study X Leadership Team will lead in the organising, management and major decisions for the study, including the pre-registration with protocol and data analysis plan.
