We are interested in learning about your background. You are not expected to have previously participated in Model UN; in fact, many of our members are new to MUN when they join our organization. Rather, we are interested in learning about how your past experiences and the skills you have gained make UCBMUN of interest to you. We highly encourage you to limit your response to about 100-150 words.
What’s a problem, whether local or global, that deeply interests you? How would the world be different if it were solved?
*
Limit 200 words. As you walk us through the problem you choose to talk about, remember to root your response in what about the problem interests you. Feel free to share possible solutions that you believe in strongly or relevant stakeholders within your response.
Please choose one of the following scenarios and explain how you would gain influence for yourself in the scenario you have selected, listing the steps you would take in order to gain power in a moment of crisis. Please make your plan of action as detailed as possible and provide any context surrounding the steps you take.

Scenario 1. You are a centurion (mid-level officer) in the Carthaginian military during the Roman siege of Carthage in the Third Punic Wars.

Scenario 2. You are a regional manager of a mid-size paper company in Lewiston, Idaho, and your company is currently in the process of being bought up by Staples.

Scenario 3. You are an enforcer of the mafia, which is currently embroiled in a violent struggle against other syndicates in New York. A new godfather has risen and seeks to purge the ranks in order to ensure absolute loyalty.
*
Limit 250 words. Feel free to bullet point/number your steps.
UCBMUN meets once a week on Mondays from 7-9 PM PST. Members must: (1) attend at least 6 meetings during a semester; (2) compete at an away conference or at BayMUN, a one-day conference held at UC Berkeley; and (3) staff our high school conference, BearMUN, from 11/5-11/6.

Would you be able to make these time commitments?
*
If you answered "no" to the question above, please elaborate on which time commitment(s) you are unable to make.
As new members, you are required to attend New Member Training (NMT) sessions every Wednesday from 8pm-10pm as an orientation to the club up until the week of October 15. Will you be able to make these sessions?   *
If you answered "no" to the question above, please specify the times that would better suit your availability, especially on Wednesday evening, for NMT.
You will be notified if you have been selected for an interview by 8:00 am PST on Wednesday, 9/07, at the latest. For those who move on to the next stage, we will be hosting a Meet & Greet on Thursday, 9/08, from 8 pm to 10 pm PST. We want to emphasize that your attendance at Meet & Greet will not be used to evaluate you. It is simply a chance for you to get to know the members of our club.

Furthermore, we will be hosting a virtual interview workshop on Wednesday, 9/07, from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm. During the workshop, we will be familiarizing you with the kinds of questions we ask as well as the structure of our interview. We highly encourage all applicants to make sure they are available for the workshop since past applicants have found it rather useful.

Lastly, please note that interviews will be conducted in-person on Friday, 9/09, and Saturday, 9/10. If you are unavailable on both days, please reach out to Vishwaa Sofat at president@mun.berkeley.edu as soon as you submit your application and we will do our very best to accommodate you.

Thank you once again for your interest in UCBMUN!
