The fishing industry in Malaysia is an ever-growing sector alongside our country’s economic development. Although the most common and dominant fishing activity carried out, which is commercial fishing, is licensed and regulated, other forms of fishing are not. To specify, our research study will be on the recreational fishing industry in Malaysia which is unregulated. As part of our research study’s objective, this survey is conducted to gauge and accumulate data on the anglers/fishermen that conduct recreational fishing
activities in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Through this, we hope to achieve the following objectives:
1. To obtain fish landing data caught from recreational fishing.
2. To develop the profile of the recreational fishing in Sabah’s west coast.
3. To develop a blueprint of guidelines and regulations on responsible fishing in Sabah in
the form of a booklet.
4. To develop an online database/website on recreational fisheries that enables input
from citizen scientists.
This survey will specifically aid us in directly achieving Objectives 1 and 2, and indirectly with Objectives 3 and 4.
As such, this survey is created and curated for recreational fishers. Through random
selection, these recreational fishers will have to answer ALL questions stated in the survey.
