Overview:

The Sun has a family of eight planets moving around it in fixed paths known as the Solar System. The Sun is a star because it has its own source of energy in the form of light and heat and other forms of radiation. The four nearby planets to the Sun, i.e. Mercury,  Venus , Earth and Mars are known as Rocky planets as their cores are mostly made up of rocks. The remaining planets are known as the Gaseous giants as they are huge in size and primarily made up of gas. Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. It has no atmosphere. Venus is the brightest planet and commonly  known as the Evening star. It is also the hottest planet of the Solar System as its carbon dioxide rich gaseous atmosphere traps most of the heat received from the Sun due to greenhouse effect. The Earth is the densest planet of the Solar System. It is the only known planet in the whole universe to possess life. It   is situated at the right distance from the Sun to receive just the heat needed for sustaining life. It has also an ozone layer to protect life from the hazardous ultraviolet radiations of the Sun. The red planet Mars is the only planet where life could exist apart from Earth. Jupiter is the largest planet of the Solar System and  is often called a Failed star as it ran short of becoming a star due to a little less mass. The planet Saturn is unique because it possesses a bright ring which can be clearly  seen with a small telescope. Unlike other planets,  the Uranus axis is highly tilted towards the Sun, making the duration of seasons very long there. The last planet of the Solar System , Neptune, is known for its high velocity wind systems. Apart from the planets, there is a band of minor planets, called the Asteroid Belt, in between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. Moon is the natural satellite of Earth. Its surface is full of craters which were caused due to meteorite impacts long ago. Galileo discovered the four bigger moons of Jupiter with his telescope in 1609. While Ganymede of Jupiter is the largest moon of the Solar System , Deimos of Mars is the smallest moon.

I am the second brightest planet in the Solar System and ,hence, clearly visible to naked eye . I rotate very fast about my own axis. I am composed entirely of hydrogen gas as I have no solid surface and, hence, a rocket cannot land on me. The Italian astronomer Galileo discovered four of my bigger moons. The Hindus believe me as the Guru of the Devas and used to associate me with knowledge and wisdom. Identify me:

I am one of the largest planets of the solar family. I look very special  even with a small telescope with my rare appendage. Although Galileo first observed me with his telescope, it was the Dutch astronomer Christian Huygens who  first correctly understood my unique feature. The Hindus believe me as the son of Lord Surya  and consider me as    the most  dreadful 'Graha' for inflicting punishment to people resorting to injustice and evil deeds. Identify me:
