What is Manga and what makes this style of drawing so distinct? MISTI Japan will host a Manga Workshop featuring three MIT manga artists: Marwa AlAlawi (Mechanical Engineering ’20); Skylar Larsen (EAPS ’23) and Raphi Kang (EECS ’23) who will guide us through the history, techniques and ‘how to’ draw in manga-style.
Pt 1: Introduction and basic Manga features and shadowing
Tuesday August 11 from 3-4:30pm
Get a brief introduction to Manga, including the history of manga and learn different techniques and approaches of manga drawing.
You’ll have an opportunity to draw after your class and upload your drawing for feedback.
Pt. 2 Illustrating expression and drawing the body:Thursday, August 13 from 3-4:30pm
Couldn’t get enough in the basic Pt. 1 intro to Manga session? There will be a deeper dive two days later in honing your skills at your manga-style drawing. We will also cover quintessential aspect of ‘anime’ expression.
Please note the workshop will be limited to 25 participants for each session. You can sign up for both or just one session. Please indicate it on the sign up form. We will send you an email to notify those who have been enrolled for the Manga workshop.
