Hartford Public Library-- Improving health literacy in the Latino Community
Every two months, we will visit the Hartford Public Library, Park Street Branch to discuss health issues that are most pressing to the Latino community (including blood pressure, diabetes, etc). The goal is to improve health literacy in the Latino community. This will be done through presentations/discussions entirely in Spanish. The activity will be very conversational, so would be a good opportunity for students to practice their Medical Spanish while interacting with Latinos in the Hartford community

Are you interested in participating in the Hartford Library Medical Education Program?

Would you be available to help plan the lessons? (This would only consist of contributing to a PowerPoint or outline.)

Medical Spanish Workshop
The past two years we have had successful Medical Spanish Workshops in which we taught a short lesson on taking a medical history in Spanish, followed by sessions in which students had the opportunity to interact with Spanish speaking Patient Instructors and practice their medical history skills in Spanish. Each workshop will be preceded by a short lesson that incorporates the issues that are disproportionately affecting Latinos. Last year, participants in this workshop included medical, dental, nursing and pharmacy students, as well as residents and health care practitioners from the area.
If you speak Spanish, would you volunteer to be a patient instructor?

Conversations in Spanish
In previous years, there was a separate Medical Spanish Club. Its members would eat lunch together once a week and speak purely in Spanish. If this is something you are interested in, please answer the following question:
On which weekdays would you be available for lunch?
