NAF Academy Code of Conduct
The Burbank Unified School District Business, Engineering, and Medical Academies are members of the national NAF pathway. Our expectations reflect the industry standards expected for performance and attendance. We expect academy students to lead by example and represent the school district with integrity. Students are expected to be their best in the classroom, on field trips, with guest speakers, and at their internship site.
Business Academy:
Accounting/Marketing, Financial Planning/Professional Ethics, and NAF Economics (or AP Econ)/Government
Engineering Academy:
Engineering I, Intro to Computer Science or AP Computer Science (BHS) or Engineering Construction & Design (JBHS), Physics or AP Physics, and Engineering II
Medical Academy: Health, Global Health/Careers in the Medical Field, Anatomy & Physiology, and Biotech/Prof Ethics
Grades: All NAF courses must be completed with a C or better. Students who receive a D+ or lower will be dropped from the program. (Only exception: Bs are accepted for AP Econ, AP Comp Sci, & AP Physics.)
Citizenship: The citizenship grade is based on attendance, punctuality, academic honesty, participation, preparation, and behavior. Students who earn a U in citizenship, violate the BUSD Academic Honesty/Plagiarism policy, get suspended from school, or who have excessive unexcused absences or who are excessively tardy to class will be dropped from the program.
Work-Based Learning Requirements: Students are required to complete a variety of WBL experiences in order to become NAFTrack Certified and earn a stole and/or cord. Students must participate with classroom speakers, DFS, field trips, college visits, CTE Day, informational interviews, mock interviews, and the 80-hour work experience/internship (paid or volunteer) and submit their completed portfolio by the Friday before spring break of their senior year. Students are required to complete the entire portfolio assignment outlined on the NAF website, must have a passing NAF Supervisor Assessment, and must receive a 70% or higher. *The required hours are above and beyond service hours and cannot count towards service hours. (Accepted: 80 hours at one location or 40 hours from two locations)
NAF graduation stoles & cords are not for participation in the program. They must be earned. You must qualify in order to purchase and wear them at graduation. Successful completion of all expectations listed above will qualify you to wear a cord. Successful completion of all expectations listed above and an A in every NAF class will qualify you to wear a stole.
Eligibility for graduation cords & stoles:
Grades:
C or better in all NAF courses.
Attendance:
No more than 7 unexcused absences or 7 tardy marks in any NAF course.
Citizenship:
No U marks in any NAF course.
No school suspensions.
No academic honesty or plagiarism violations in any class - including the use of AI to complete work.
Work Experience:
Completion of 80-hour work experience.
Passing portfolio of C or better.
Stoles:
Must meet all requirements listed above & receive an A or better in all NAF courses. **Bs are acceptable in AP Economics, AP Computer Science, and AP Physics.
Academy students must maintain exceptional citizenship, complete required projects, and pass required courses to continue in the program. I understand and agree to follow the above NAF Academy Code of Conduct for the Burbank Unified School District Business Academy, Engineering Academy, or Medical Academy and understand the requirements for my opportunity to wear an academy cord/stole at graduation.
