Tuesday October 10th!
There will be three in-person workshops as a part of this series.
Snacks will be included for all workshops.
Workshops are interactive and include hands-on activities pertinent to the topic. This will take place on in the Arnold building M1-B406. Please bring your laptops and be prepared to participate!
Please note that we will cap each workshop to the first 30 people who sign up.
Workshops:
Workshop 1: Intro to Reproducibility and GitHub (9:30 AM - 11:00 AM) - How to make sure your data, code, and analyses can reliably run, re-run, and be shared to others in the scientific community!
Topics covered:
- What does it mean to be reproducible?
- What's version control?
- What is GitHub and how to file a pull request
Workshop 2: Using GitHub as an Automation Tool for Code (11:00 AM - 12:30 PM) - How to automate some of your code development process. For individuals comfortable with Git/GitHub and/or have attended
Intro to Reproducibility and GitHub workshop.
Topics covered:
- What is continuous integration/continuous deployment and how should we be using it as scientific code developers?
- How to automate things using GitHub Actions
- Build a basic GitHub Action
Workshop 3: Data Management & Sharing Plans for NIH Proposals (1:30 - 3:00 PM) - Sharing is vital for the scientific community and new mandates are being put in place, but how do we set ourselves up for success at the grant proposal stage to ensure plans are effective, secure, and manageable? Topics covered:
- Understand why you should be thinking about the new NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy for incoming proposals
- Learn how to frame your NIH proposal and budget to meet the new requirements
- Explore template text and tools that will help make writing your plan more straightforward
