Kangatraining Australia Health Form for Eltham & Doreen
Hello and Welcome!

My name is Britt and I am a Muma to Kai and the Kangatraining instructor for Eltham & Doreen.

Thank you so much for your interest in Kangatraining! Kangatraining is a safe postnatal exercise class that is low impact and specifically designed for mums and babies; the ultimate babywearing dance-based workout. It is a wonderful postnatal fitness program with benefits far beyond just the physical, and we can't wait for you and your bub to join us! In class we focus on rebuilding strength of the muscles affected by pregnancy and birth, through a fun & energetic class.

GENERAL INFORMATION:
Before you can begin Kangatraining you must be given the all clear to start exercising again from your health professional at your postnatal check. This is anywhere from 6-10 weeks postpartum for a vaginal delivery or around 12 weeks postpartum if you’ve had a caesarean delivery.

There is no age limit for babies as long as every mother participating in Kangatraining can wear their baby safely and comfortably. Older siblings are welcome to come along too! You will need a baby carrier for class, but you do not need to own one as hire carriers are available on request. We have got a great selection of optimal carriers for you to trial as well as purchase. Manduca carriers can hold up to 20kg.

Babywearing safety is of utmost importance during Kangatraining and all Kangatrainers are expertly trained in the best babywearing practices. Due to the level of movement & physical activity, there are particular babywearing requirements we must adhere to, to ensure the safety of both mums & babies. All carriers must meet T.I.C.K.S guidelines for safe babywearing and must support the baby’s natural sitting position (M-position - hip to knee). Babies must be worn facing you in the carrier, placed either on your front or on your back. Tandem carrying - whilst amazing! - is unfortunately not safe during Kangatraining. If you have twins, a few different options are available to you, please contact me for details.

Several different types of carriers are suitable for Kanga including brands such as Manduca, Ergo, Boba, Tula, Kinderpak and Mei Tai. Carriers such as ring slings, stretchy wraps (e.g. hug-a-bub), carriers with little head support (e.g. Mother's Choice, Baby Bjorn), narrow based carriers (e.g. Baby Bjorn, Safe n Sound) and outward facing carriers are unfortunately not suitable for Kangatraining and cannot be worn during class.

As a Kangatrainer I am also an authorized re seller of MANDUCA Australia and New Zealand. This is a great bonus for you - If you purchase a carrier through Kangatraining you get exclusive deals, an extended 3 year warranty, a personalized fitting from me and ongoing assistance with any fitting inquiries, i.e. adjusting the carrier as your baby grows. If you or anyone you know may be interested in finding out more, please let me know.

MY KANGATRAINING CLASSES:
We all know it can be a bit daunting to attend a new class for the first time (always just a mission to get out of the house!) We aim to set you and your baby at ease right away so please aim to arrive 15 mins prior to the start of your first trial class so that we have enough time to go through your health questionnaire, discuss any injuries or birth related concerns and I will also have a gentle feel of your abdominal muscles to check for any muscle separation so we can tailor any exercises accordingly (this is done with your permission and over clothing).

At the start of class I will explain the structure of the class and answer any questions. A Kanga class goes for an hour - we do a warm up with babies in our arms, floor strengthening exercises with babies on the mat and after that we put babies into carriers. In every class your baby comes first so you are encouraged to do whatever you need to do to ensure you and your baby are comfortable (a nappy change and feed before class can help bub feel more comfortable).

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING TO CLASS:
Wear clothing you feel comfortable exercising in. Shoes are optional or else sneakers are great!
Dress baby for the weather but keep in mind that once in the carriers they will be kept warm by you and the carrier, so easily removable layers are ideal!
Water bottle
Baby carrier (if you have one that is suitable)
Normal baby bag, e.g. spare clothes, nappies etc
Blanket for baby to lie down on during floor work
Toys and snacks for older children (recommended)
