When driving a UW Fleet vehicle you are representing Wisconsin Hoofers, Outdoor UW, the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the state of Wisconsin. *
The sponsoring department for the trip (in this case, Outdoor UW or Hoofers) can pay for any parking tickets the driver receives while using a UW Fleet vehicle. *
Even if there is extra room in my vehicle, it is not okay to pickup my roommate/friend in the UW Fleet vehicle because only designated persons on the trip are authorized to ride in the vehicle. *
Although animals are prohibited in Fleet vehicles, its okay for a passenger to bring a service animal. *
After having a few beers at dinner, it is okay to drive a Fleet vehicle when the driver is within the legal limits of the blood-alcohol level of the state in which they are driving. *
For trips over 4 hours, it is recommended to have 2 authorized drivers in a vehicle allowing for drivers to switch when traveling long distances to prevent drivers from becoming tired. *
If a Hoofer trip has multiple cars that are traveling together, it is wise to caravan because it helps the group stay on time and prevents wasting gas if a car gets lost. *
In high risk areas, it is wise to take all valuables out of the fleet vehicles. *
If a fleet vehicle becomes dirty from salt on the roads, mud, or bugs, it is okay to use the state fleet credit card that comes with each vehicle to get a car wash. *
It's okay to use the state fleet credit card to pay for gas. *
If a fleet vehicle has a flat tire while driving to the approved destination, the authorized driver can use the state fleet credit card (attached to the keys) that comes with each vehicle to purchase another tire. *
If a Fleet vehicle cannot be driven due to breakdown, accident, etc., the UW fleet office should be contacted immediately. If not available, ARI should be contacted. Fleet will recover the vehicle. *
To become an authorized driver, you must pass a driving test with a UW Fleet employee in a Fleet vehicle. *
To reserve a UW fleet vehicle, you must be a certified driver and make the reservation through the Outdoor UW office manager or your advisor. *
You can cancel a reservation without penalty for a UW Fleet vehicle at any time. *
Only authorized drivers may pick up UW Fleet vehicles. *
When picking up a fleet vehicle after hours, the person picking up the vehicle must be authorized to drive and have the reservation number to collect the keys. *
When returning a fleet vehicle you should park the car at the UW Fleet parking lot and return the keys in the drop box located to the right of the front door of the Fleet Office. *
Using a UW car fleet vehicle is a privilege and failure to adhere to rules can result in student discipline, loss of driving privileges, or possibly even financial responsibility for collision damage, medical expenses or other costly items. *
When driving a UW Fleet vehicle, the driver should ensure they carry the number of their advisor, UW Fleet Office, UW Police Non-Emergency, and UW Risk Management. *
