NHERI Centrifuge Users' Workshop

You are invited to attend the NHERI Centrifuge Users' Workshop to be held October 13-14, 2022. This workshop is being organized by the US National Science Foundation's (NSF) Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure (NHERI) Equipment Facility at the Center for Geotechnical Modeling at the University of California, Davis.

The workshop will be a hybrid remote/in-person event. The mornings of both days will comprise presentation and discussion sessions for both the remote and in-person participants. The afternoons will comprise working sessions for in-person participants. The presentation/discussion sessions in the mornings will cover (1) the NHERI centrifuge facility science plan and capabilities, (2) principles of centrifuge modeling, (3) centrifuge test design and planning, (4) external user experiences, and (5) example research projects. The working sessions for in-person participants in the afternoons will focus on proposal development and will include interactive sessions on (1) further developing a research vision, (2) designing and planning a centrifuge test program, and (3) writing a proposal for research using the NHERI centrifuge facility.

Workshop registration is required for both in-person and remote participants. In-person registration will include a $100 fee payable on-site; remote registration is free. We welcome participants from industry and academia, including senior graduate students or post-docs working with faculty on research projects or proposals.

In-person attendance will be prioritized to those with an active interest in submitting proposals for research that utilizes the centrifuge facilities at UC Davis.  Limited funding is available to support in-person attendance, with funding priority given to junior and mid-career participants.

Information from prior workshops can be found at https://ucdavis.designsafe-ci.org/workshops/.  Additional information about the facility and ongoing research projects at UC Davis can be found at https://cgm.engr.ucdavis.edu/projects/ and https://ucdavis.designsafe-ci.org/.

Questions regarding the workshop may be directed to Dan Wilson (dxwilson@ucdavis.edu) or Ross Boulanger (rwboulanger@ucdavis.edu).
