Providing for orphans is a significant act in Islam. It is so significant that Allah mentioned orphans in the Quran at least 25 times! The Prophet (SAW) always reminded us of the virtues of caring for an orphan. He (peace be upon him) said: "the one who takes care for an orphan, and myself will be together in Paradise like this' and he held his two fingers together to illustrate." [Bukhari]. Caring for orphans is very dear to the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), as he was orphaned as a child.

The rewards of supporting an orphan in Islam:
1) You will have the best house -- The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “the best house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are well-treated. The worst house among the Muslims is the house in which orphans are ill-treated.” [Bukhari]

2) Your wealth will be blessed -- “Righteousness in the sight of God … dwells in one who, despite his love for it, gives of his wealth in charity to close relatives and orphans and to the needy and the wayfarer, and beggars and for the emancipation of slaves.” (Surat Al-Baqarah, 2:177).

3) Supporting an orphan is the ultimate form of continuous charity, also known as sadaqah jariyah: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: sadaqah jariyah (a continuous charity), or knowledge from which benefit is gained, or a righteous child who prays for him.” [Muslim]
