Dr. Joyce-Zoe Farley will share the history of Juneteenth from the Emancipation Proclamation to the efforts to get it declared a national holiday, to Governor Ivey's recognition of Juneteenth as Freedom Day in Alabama.
In 2021, Juneteenth became the first federal holiday approved since Martin Luther King Jr. Day in 1983.

Dr. Farley is the Visiting Assistant Professor of Public History and African American Studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She has dual appointments in the History department and the African American Studies Program.
