Recommendation for Applicant (Athlete's Name): *
1) Work Ethic: This Athlete has a work ethic that I would love for the entire team. Focused attention and effort is brought to every practice, not just the day of the game.  Athletes who have performance ethic show up to game day pumped and ready to perform. However, those with work ethic show up every day, ready to learn and make a difference. *

2) Positive Attitude: This Athlete shows up to practice and game day with a can-do positive attitude.  Attitude in athletes has been proven to be invaluable.  Coaches know that passion, attitude and desire are as valuable, if not more than, raw talent.  This Athlete believes they can make a difference for themselves and the team. *

3.2) Leadership - Cultural leader: This Athlete provides the bond, strength and chemistry for the team.  They lead in the locker room, on campus, and even through group texts.  They are the glue that helps hold the team together. They stem the seeds of dissention and blame after a loss and extends the ride on the wave of glory after a solid win. *

4) Team Player. This Athlete is a team player, consciously more concerned about the team than themselves. They are trustworthy and are there for the team, on and off the court.  Being a good teammate is a decision rooted in attitude, specifically the choice of interdependence over independence.  They understand that individuals on the team may have different roles and some may shine more, but in the end the team wins or loses as a whole, irrespective of the shining stars.  Individual glory is not the goal, but the success of the team is the heart of the program. *

5) Teachable Spirit: This Athlete has the “teachable spirit.”  They are the enthusiasm and drive to improve and learn at every opportunity.  This Athlete understands that a coach’s corrections are made because they see an opportunity to make an athlete better, not to criticize.  They respond to the coach’s correction in a way that makes the coach believe that the correction was clearly heard (They don't look away or roll eyes). *

6) Perseverance: This Athlete does not give up; they will fight to the end, whether winning or losing. (Never-say-die is their middle name!)  All teams and athletes have bumps in the road; recovering from the bumps is more telling than enjoying a winning streak.  This Athlete is mentally tough.  No matter the score, they gives it their all.  They can lose to an opponent ten times and still looks forward to the rematch. *

7) Athletic Integrity & Sportsmanship: Words like fair, ethical, and respectful define athletic integrity and this Athlete embodies them all. This Athlete defines “sportsmanship”.  They are a gracious winner and a respectful loser.  This Athlete does not lose patience with his/her teammates, nor demonstrates anger at a bad call by the referee.  They are defined by composure and self-confidence. *

8) Pride: This Athlete has DV pride: They are the epitome of DVHS sports.  Pride is a shared concept, experienced by being in the inner circle of a team. It’s an intangible quality that outsiders do not understand.  Team pride is developed at practice and on the court: it involves unselfishness, accountability.  It is rooted in personal effort, rather than skill, where determination is more important than talent. *

9) Accountability: This Athlete is responsible and takes accountability for their actions.  When things are not going well, they first looks at themselves to see where they can make a difference.  They don't seek excuses or try to place blame on others.  They are a problem-solver and focuses on things they can control to enhance the situation or the team. *
