This internship requires attending the graduate student's 605/652 seminar class.  If you want to intern during the Fall semester, then look up when EDP 605 is being taught that semester (by going to myUK --> Academics --> Course Catalog--> select correct semester --> plug in EDP 605).  If you want to intern during the Spring semester, then look up when EDP 652 is being taught that semester.  Which of the following sections will you be able to attend next semester, given your schedule (check all that apply)?
Playing a convincing therapy client is challenging and requires flexibility, tolerance of ambiguity, ability to improvise, willingness and ability to show emotion, open-mindedness, and a commitment to stepping outside your comfort zone in order to challenge assumptions you might hold about emotion, relationships, diversity, privilege, racism, sexism, and other forms of prejudice and discrimination.  Are you comfortable with these expectations?

To clarify: interns do not “get therapy” as a part of this experience.  The interns are acting as clients, they are not actual clients seeking actual therapy for actual mental health concerns.  If you are currently having difficulty coping with mental illness, we recommend seeking actual therapy from UK Counseling Center; this internship is not designed to provide treatment.  Please indicate that you understand that this is the case and will not be using this internship to get your own mental health needs met.

In 3-10 sentences, describe how your past curricular, volunteer, work, and/or life experiences have prepared you to be an effective intern for us.
In 3-10 sentences, answer the following prompts.  What is your motivation for wanting to complete this internship?  What do you hope to get out of it and how will this help you with your future career?
Is there anything else about your application, your experiences, your aspirations, or who you are as a person that you'd like us to know about you?  For example, this could include information about how you see your cultural identities (e.g., gender, race, socioeconomic status) and values shaping your interest in the position.
If you wish to earn PSY 399/499 credit, you will need to secure a UK Psychology Department faculty sponsor.  We recommend identifying, in advance of your application, a faculty sponsor who will be willing to supervise you in the event you are selected for the internship.

Next Steps
Thank you for submitting an application.  Here is what happens next.

We start reviewing applications around March 20 (for fall internship) and October 20 (for spring internship) of each year, though we continue to review applications submitted after this deadline until we have filled all available internship slots.  The strongest applicants will be invited to a 30-minute internship interview. Keep an eye out for an email from us in the weeks following the aforementioned date regarding whether you will be granted an interview or not.

Interns will be selected based on interview performance.  Interns who are selected will work with their UK Psychology Department faculty sponsor to formally register for the PSY 399/499 internship course, so that they can get credit for the internship experience.
A copy of your responses will be emailed to the address you provided.
