Trailblaze & Celebrate: Hiking and Park Fest Day! - Sat May 11, 9am-11am
NOTE: We are meeting next to Lake Chabot Marina & Cafe . You can either park your car in parking lot or use street parking ~1/4 mi away on Lake Chabot Road. Parking fee is $5 per vehicle in the parking lot.

  • In this beautiful Spring weather, join us at Castro Valley to explore Lake Chabot Regional Park, a park that is known for hiking, biking, fishing, boating etc.
  • Lake Chabot offers over 20 miles of hiking trails. The paved West Shore and East Shore trails provide access to the south and east shores of the lake
  • We will hike the East Shore Trail which is 90% paved. This is a hike of easy elevation and moderate length and is suitable for all ages.
  • If you want to challenge yourself a bit more, there is a little loop on the Ten Hills Trails, a detour up the hills on our way back, meeting back at the marina where we start. This is a paved path until Indian Cove Trail and then becomes a dirt path that winds gradually upward through the woods. The landscape opens up near the top to provide views of the lake. We will evaluate at the turn-around point if there is a subgroup that would like to tackle this optional add-on.
  • After the hike, we can join the Park Fest and celebrate 90 years of East Bay Regional Parks happening at Lake Chabot. It's a free event with music, performances, Kids' Zone, hands-on fun, nature exhibits and displays, food trucks, eco-friendly activities, and more.
  • We will meet at 9am at the lawn adjacent to Lake Chabot Marina & Cafe. There are flush restrooms nearby. The hike will proceed around 9:15am after going over the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace (LNT) principles.
  • We will aim to finish around 11 am.
  • Class B uniforms (Pack t-shirt, Scout hat) for your scouts if they have them. Pack t-shirts for adults encouraged but optional.
Requirement: Scout and accompanying parent must have an Annual Health Medical Record (AHMR form) on file (forms A/B1/B2) in order to hike with us.  If you have not filled one out, please bring the completed form with you to the hike and hand it to Tim. This applies to all scouts, siblings, and friends if they plan to hike alongside our group.
