Call for submissions: Philly Doll/House Project zine and show

Seeking dollhouse and diorama-related submissions for an upcoming Philly gallery show, as well as photos and stories for our project Instagram (@dollhousediorama) and zine!

There is no cost to submit work or to participate. If you have objects you would like to submit for inclusion in the public exhibition or photos and stories for the project Instagram and zine, please share some information with us using this form.

The Doll/House Project (Dollhouse & Diorama-Rama: @dollhousediorama) is a closer look at the tiny worlds of dollhouses and dioramas. From contemporary art and architecture to DIY objects made of cardboard and glue, dollhouses and dioramas offer us a world of hope in a box. As part of this project, we will hold public workshops to build objects and tell stories, and hold a public exhibition as well as a curated online gallery.

This is a project of the Philly Tiny Little Collective: Carolyn Chernoff, Alison Miner, Kimberly Mitchell, and Gina Renzi.

April 30, 2023, The Rotunda, West Philly: workshops

Submissions
We seek submissions of art, objects, photographs, and writing for a gallery show in Philly in late May-June 2023 as well as for a compilation zine and our curated Instagram. This project is organized around dollhouses and dioramas, but what are those things, anyway? We are thinking about tiny things, the concept of hope in a box, and what it means to literally make the world you want to see. A dollhouse could be a conventional hand-crafted work of art and architecture, or a refurbished object: Castle Greyskull! Barbie Dreamhouse! Maybe you make miniatures, or suitcase theater, or small scenes from history or an imagined future. In terms of objects, we are open to your ideas but ask that anything submitted for inclusion in the show be something physical you can bring to a gallery near 40th/Chestnut in West Philly for installation.

Photos, two-dimensional art, and stories are similarly open: what are you favorite memories associated with dollhouses or dioramas? Is there a dream dollhouse or diorama? What is the point of making, playing with, or looking at tiny things and tiny worlds?

If you would like to submit art/objects/writing, please plan to have your final version ready by April 15, 2023.. You will receive further details by email.
