Timetable planning and management is a crucial activity in any academic institution with its major thrust being to efficiently and smoothly handle the resources and facilities of the academic institution. To optimally balance the efficient use of these resources, the spread of their workloads along with the allocation of necessary rest and respite fairly and smoothly is a delicate and sensitive process. Since most academic institutions in India accomplish this purely through a manual process, it turns out to be a very time consuming and draining process for the time table planners and administrators.

This workshop will provide an automation alternative that greatly reduces this time and drain using an Open Source Time Table Management Software called FET (Free Evolutionary Timetabling).

The journey that was undertaken in the implementation of time table automation in a couple of academic institutions in Kochi, Kerala, India will also be shared along with the practical installation and configuration required for the usage of the open source time table planning software. The participants will be taken through the practical steps involved in timetable planning process using the software.
