2024 Summer Institute Application
In celebration of our 50th year, the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation is pleased to welcome applications to our 2024 Teacher Summer Institute!

Join 25 Alberta-based educators to explore topics around Global Citizenship Education and themes of international development, sustainability, gender equality, inclusiveness, and more — right here in Alberta! Educators will participate in a 2-day professional development retreat at Metis Crossing, Smoky Lake, where they will engage with Global Citizenship Education experts, as well as Alberta international aid organizations, local organizations and community leaders through dialogue and practical hands-on learning. With the support of ACGC staff, participants will also work together to develop and implement activities to engage educators and students in Alberta on important global issues explored during the program.

Through the Summer Institute, you will:

  • Engage and learn with Global Citizenship Education experts to understand major themes and applications in schools
  • Engage and learn with humanitarian and international development organizations based in Alberta
  • Become more informed about what Albertans and others are doing to address pressing global concerns
  • Explore the intersections between local-global issues in our local contexts
  • Deeply engage with current global issues, such as global poverty, gender equality, global health, and climate change
  • Build a strong network of like-minded and passionate peers who care about our global reality
  • Learn how to implement various workshops, lesson plans and activities related to the above topics in your own classrooms!
The Summer Institute will take place from July 18th to 19th, 2024 consisting of a 2-day, in-person learning retreat. The full program schedule will be available after participants are selected.

This year, ACGC is also pleased to cover transport costs, accommodations, and on-site costs such as food associated with the event.
