The Youth Climate Action Team (YCAT,
ycatwi.org) is a statewide organization that provides resources to youth climate organizers and plans statewide actions (like the Global Climate Strike in September). My name is Ella Syverson, I use she/her pronouns, I'm a high school senior in Ashland, and I am the YCAT City Lead for this area. I'm looking for other passionate young people who are interested in taking on a leadership role with this group after I leave. With this goal in mind, I will be hosting a series of mentoring sessions with a small group of other high schoolers to teach the leadership and organizational skills you might need, and figure out the ways you might be interested in being involved. Stella Banowetz is also a member of YCAT, was one of the main organizers of the Global Climate Strike, and will be helping with this project.
Times/dates/locations are flexible and I can make them work for you, but it will be a significant time commitment (at least 1 hour per week.) Eventually, this group will join statewide YCAT conference calls and organize climate strikes and other actions, including a strike for Earth Day in April. Fill out the application below if you're interested in this opportunity, and I'll get in touch with you to find a time to talk more in person or via phone or video call. I expect this will be an awesome group of people to work with, and it will also look excellent on college/job applications! Aim to complete this application in by January 10.
