We have several routes live with parent volunteers. Ensuring we have volunteers willing to be a regular bike bus escort or a substitute escort will make us successful.
We have mapped three routes to catch as many children as possible. To ride alone, children must be in grades 2-5. Younger riders are welcome with their parent as a passenger or a rider if they are able to keep up with the group.
Riders' families and volunteers will be invited to a GroupMe group, which is a simple communication app that can be used on a phone or computer. It will allow us to broadcast weather cancellations, emergency information, or absences in a way that all can quickly see. We will have a way for volunteers to ask others to substitute for them if their plans don't allow them to participate on certain weeks.
Your role as a bike bus volunteer would include riding the route at the prescribed time, stopping at the bike bus "stops" as children gather, and assisting them in getting to the bike racks at school. We will have one adult in front and one in back of the column at all times and often other parents along to provide support.
You are welcome to ride only the morning route, only the afternoon route, or both. We are piloting Wildcats on Wheels each Friday for now. We will ride March-May for our pilot and reconvene in the fall when school begins again.
This form is collecting interest from adult volunteers willing to help or those who'd like to stay informed about other ways they can support!
