United Faculty of Florida Organizing Fellows: Spring 2021 Legislative Session
Deadline: now through Sunday, March 21st (applications may be considered after this date if positions are not filled).

UFF with the support of NEA and AFT has created a very effective organizing program which we call the UFF Organizing Fellows Program. This program is designed to support our member engagement efforts at the local level through one-on-one conversations, small and large group meetings with members and potential members, leadership identification and development, and increased activism. This program capitalizes on our most valuable resource—members—to help build union power and activism.

Through this program, union members are trained and work as part-time paid organizers to help UFF chapters reach 50% membership and mobilize non-members during the legislative session. The program seeks to foster a culture of organizing, member engagement and accountability among member organizers, staff, and leadership.

Participants must:
Be current members of their chapter (must be a US citizen or valid green card holder).
Submit an application and attend an on-line interview (15-20 minutes).
Be willing to commit to the full term of the program and work a minimum of 15 hours per week, maximum of
        20 hours per week.
New Fellows: program runs 4 weeks - March 29th to April 23rd. Depending on funding, contracts may be
        extended for another 4 weeks.
Be willing to participate in training, team work and debriefs.
Be willing to track phone conversations in a database or spreadsheet.
Be willing to challenge themselves and others.
Be willing to engage with colleagues and other workers via remote contact -- phone conversations, small
group on-line sessions, texts and social media outreach. No one is required to do in-person canvassing
       during this Pandemic.

Participants will be required to:

1) Attend two, two hour Organizing Trainings the week of March 29th
2) Work some evenings and weekends if needed.

Compensation:
UFF Organizing Fellows will be paid $20/hour, for 15 to a maximum of 20 hours per week, during the program period.

There is no union contract for this position, nor benefits, as it is a supplement short-term organizing program. It is expected that all Fellows will be in the bargaining unit and obtaining union and health care benefits through their employment on campus.
