Downtown Tempe Juneteenth Spades Tournament Participant Submission

How to Participate in the Tournament

  • The Spades Tournament will be held during the Juneteenth Celebration in Downtown Tempe on Saturday June 17, 2023. First game begins at 7:30pm.
  • Participation is on a first-come, first serve basis
  • Submit your team name, and the names of the players on THIS FORM
  • On the day of the event, check-in your team between 7:00pm and 7:20pm.  
  • The first 8 teams (both players on each team) to check-in on the day of the event will participate in the tournament.

Rules

Teams of Two / 4 Tables / 2 Teams per Table / 8 Total Teams (After each round, bystanders can use the open tables to play non-tournament spades games)

Two 20-Minute Rounds / One 20-Minute Championship Round

Play as Many Games as You Can Within the 20 Minutes

The Team with the Most Books Wins and Advances to the Next Round (sandbags/overs not counted, subtract a book for each number of books set)

The Championship Winning Team is the Team with the Most Books From That Round (sandbags/overs not counted, subtract a book for each number of books set)

Each Team Will Receive a Score Card to Tally Books, Sandbags and Set Numbers After the announcer calls time, all players stop the game and each team adds up their books. The announcer will collect the score cards and announce the winning teams moving on to the next round.

Game Times

7:30pm-7:50pm Round 1
8:00pm- 8:20pm Round 2
8:30pm- 8:50pm Round 3 (Championship)
