2024 LMHS AVID Application
AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. Students in the program are generally considered ‘middle of the road’ students, but they have the potential and commitment to do AP work.  AVID supports students in the middle, who, when given the proper support, academic skills, and motivation, are able to excel in higher level academic courses.

The goals of AVID include helping students:

Succeed in a rigorous curriculum
Complete a rigorous college preparatory path
Enter mainstream activities of schools
Increase enrollment in four-year colleges
Become educated and responsible participants and leaders in a democratic society

How do students join the AVID Program?
Entrance into the AVID Program is decided on a rubric which includes standard academic criteria such as FSA scores (Levels 2 and 3), attendance, GPA, and discipline record, as well as additional home life factors such as being from a single parent household, eligibility for free or reduced lunch, ESOL designation, being a member of a large family, or being a first generation college student in their family. In addition, recommendations from current teachers, an essay, and an interview will be required for student entrance into the AVID program.
