Intro to Digital Technology (IDT) Carnegie Application
Dear Parents and Rising 8th Grade Students:

Creekland Middle School is excited to offer the opportunity for 8th grade students to earn high school credit with Carnegie Unit courses in Career and Technology Education.  The Introduction to Digital Technology class will focus on project-based activities to successfully master the skills and knowledge that will provide a technology rich foundation as students navigate their educational journey.

Introduction to Digital Technology will concentrate on the development of computer skills that are required for all career pathways.  Students will have the opportunity to:
take on a leadership role and be empowered with technology tools (hardware and software)
learn effective digital communication skills
work with web design applications
be introduced to the world of programming
get an overview of emerging technologies impacting the digital world
This course is designed to prepare students to be successful both professionally and personally in an information-based society.

Upon successful completion of this course, students may opt to receive Carnegie Unit credit for high school.  This class grade will be reflected on the middle school report card.  This class will require Fall and Spring Performance and Objective Finals; each will count 10% of the total grade.

Once a student enrolls in the Introduction to Digital Technology class, the student must commit to staying in the class throughout the entire school year. The Introduction to Digital Technology class will qualify as the introductory course for the Information Technology pathways.  Taking this high school course in middle school affords students an opportunity to get a head start on the Information Technology pathways if chosen, and gives students a building block towards completing the required credits for high school, allowing for more freedom of class choice throughout high school.

We are currently looking for rising 8th graders who are interested in taking this course.  Students interested in IDT who have not already submitted an application should complete this form ASAP.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at Kathy.Krohnert@gcpsk12.org

Sincerely,
Ms. Krohnert
