Facility Tours/Field Trips

Job Shadowing - Job shadowing enables a student to spend time with a specific industry professional and observe them for a specified period of time, usually one workday. Job shadowing is usually structured so that one student shadows one professional.

Mentorships - Mentorship programs are structured, school-coordinated methods that enable a student to learn about an industry and the workplace from a selected professional who has experience in the field. Mentorship usually requires student preparation and career exploration prior to the experience. It is generally more complex compared to job shadowing but is less demanding and shorter in duration than an internship

Internships - Internships enable students to gain applied experience by working for a local employer, build professional and technical skills, and make connections in a field of interest. Internships may be paid or unpaid and vary in duration. Many internships are conducted over the summer months while some internships can last an entire school year.

Youth Apprenticeship - A youth apprenticeship is a structured, work-based learning program designed to start when apprentices are in high school. High-quality youth apprenticeship programs are built on partnerships that include employers, high schools, and providers of postsecondary education, most often a community college. High-quality youth apprenticeship programs include the following four core elements: 1.) Paid, on-the-job learning under the supervision of skilled employee-mentors; 2.) Related, classroom-based instruction; 3.) Ongoing assessment against established skills and competency standards; 4.) Culmination in a portable, industry-recognized credential and postsecondary credit.
