All library staff and volunteers are required to have background checks (if they are 18 and older). This is a state law requirement and library policy.
The three background checks, Child Abuse, State Police,
and FBI fingerprints, can be found here:
https://www.dhs.pa.gov/KeepKidsSafe/Clearances/Pages/default.aspx.
The FBI fingerprinting is a two-parter: you make a reservation to go
get the fingerprints, and you pay when you go. The Child Abuse and
State Police, and proof of appointment for the FBI fingerprints (at
the very least) are good to start volunteering. You can print out
what you need here at the library or email it to me to be printed
out. Also, there is a 3-hour mandated reporter training. The free
site we all use is here:
https://www.reportabusepa.pitt.edu.
This requires a login, which enables you to start and stop for
however long it takes to complete. You do not have to do three hours
in a row. You can start and stop at your leisure.
