AcademicTransfer is preparing a new concept: AcademicsConnected. A platform where scientists from the Netherlands can be in long-term connection with (future) scientists, master students and colleagues from all over the world. The goal is to broaden our own network and to spot potential candidates, get in touch with them and when the time is right offer them a position.

One of the components of AcademicsConnected is the "International Suite": a collection of tools for accessing, studying and interviewing foreign (latent) talent. We would like to ask you which of the tools below you would find interesting and at what rates.

AcademicTransfer, and therefore AcademicsConnected, is a cooperative association with members: all research institutions of KNAW and NWO, the Dutch universities and UMCs. To this end, we operate on a non-profit basis. New developments are deployed when the members request them. By being able to estimate the potential use now, we can compile a budget to further develop the products.

The questions below relate to the international virtual events, as we did as a "proof of concept" in November 2020 in China and April 2021 in Latin America. Improvement proposals were made as a result of the evaluations among the participants. The results of this survey will also help determine the feasibility of the improvement proposals.

Standard assumptions
All questions are related to virtual events, organized by AcademicTransfer and exclude live events or virtual events offered by other companies.

The questions below assume that in all cases there is a database of candidates whose CVs and research proposals can be reviewed in advance and interviews scheduled within our new event platform with suitable candidates. A personal branding page is created for each delegate, on which things like topics offered, admission criteria, information about the faculty, brochures and videos can be displayed. In this way, candidates can orient themselves specifically to your scientific work. PhDs, scholarships and scientists
International events are mainly aimed at PhD candidates. At some events, candidates bring their own scholarship, such as recently in China (CSC) and Latin America (Conacyt, Minciencias, Colfuturo, Icetex). There are also events targeting researchers, postdocs, assistant- and even associate- and full professors, such as the European Career Fair in Boston, USA.

Recruitment of candidates may take place during a specific period of time. The advantage of this is that you can talk to all selected candidates over a few days and study their research proposal and CV in advance. The disadvantage is that you can miss suitable candidates because they are not focused on the labor market during that period. This is similar to a "call for papers", with a deadline: the day or days of the event.

Another form is ongoing recruitment, which can be seen more as "open application". Applicants can submit research proposals throughout the year. These are matched with your specific scientific discipline and you get a signal when interesting candidates come forward.
