Dear Colleagues,

It is an honor for me to serve as the inaugural director of the Data Science Initiative (DSI) at the College of Science and Engineering. Such an initiative is long overdue given the increasingly central role of data science in accelerating scientific discoveries and its potential for addressing societal grand challenges at the state, national, and international levels. Indeed, our college and the University have unique strengths and resources that can be leveraged to enhance the quality, impact, and visibility of data science research at the college, and make the University of Minnesota a top destination for students, faculty, and industry seeking students as well as collaborators.
