Local Author Consignment Submission - Books on Main
As a local indie bookstore, Books on Main supports local Wisconsin authors whose work aligns with our bookstore values and customer interests.

Filling out and submitting this form is required for any author partnerships with Books on Main, if we don’t have an existing relationship with you and your work. Please limit your request to ONE title. We will reach out to you if we want to consider other books you have written.  

In addition to this form, please submit the following by email to booksonmain301@gmail.com (incomplete submissions will not be considered; you must submit the additional required info via email to be considered):

1. A file with the cover art, front, spine, and back
2. An excerpt from your book: one complete chapter for a novel, 4 pages for a picture or board book

By completing this form, you acknowledge that you've read & agree to our Consignment Guidelines:

  • Books must have a registered ISBN barcode and a bound spine with the author’s name and book title (no spiral or stapled bindings). Books without these items will not be considered. 

  • The jacket art should be clear, not pixelated or grainy.

  • Nonfiction books must not contain any racist, sexist, homophobic, or overtly dogmatic content.

  • Up to three (3) copies per title will be considered for the initial consignment period of 90 days. 

  • After the initial 90-day consignment period, we will contact the consignor to settle the account, request more stock, or return unsold stock. If the account is extended, it will be for another 90-day period. 

  • At the end of the consignment period, the author will be notified and will have 14 days to pick up any unsold books. All books left unclaimed after 14 days will be donated.

  • Books on Main will pay an industry-standard rate of 60% of the retail price for consignment items sold. We retain 40% as our sales commission. Payments will be made at the end of each consignment period by check. It is the author’s responsibility to pick up their checks at the store whenever they are notified of sales.

  • Books must be priced comparably to similar titles.

  • As part of the consignment agreement, the author agrees to promote Books on Main (@booksonmain301 on Facebook and Tiktok) as a retail location at which their book(s) can be purchased. Books on Main is not responsible for the creation of any marketing for the author.

  • Books on Main will do everything within its control to maintain the integrity of the books consigned and secure them during the consignment period. We are not responsible for theft, loss, or damage to books consigned.

  • Authors will provide a completed consignment form and the $25.00 non-refundable handling fee for each title taken on consignment (can be paid when books are provided).

Once you have submitted this form, please allow 2 to 4 weeks to receive our initial response. Please do not drop off copies of your book at our bookstore, unsolicited. Incomplete submissions will not be considered; please ensure you've emailed the requested additional materials.
