Counselor Expectations
In order to hold a smooth and engaging FPOP, all counselors must adhere to standards of responsibility, attendance, responsiveness, and community. NO GHOSTING PLEASE!
Responsibility: Each counselor will be tasked to organize a particular PhysPOP activity. As organizer, you must prepare all the communications and logistical details of your activities well in advance. Take initiative and anticipate details which may have been overlooked, both for your own activities and your fellow counselors' activities.
Attendance: Attend all prep meetings over the summer (don't worry, there won't be many). Attend all events especially all PhysPOP breakfasts on time! If you have a conflict, notify the head counselors as soon as you find out. It is extremely detrimental to have counselors randomly not show up.
Responsiveness: During the organizing phase which happens over the summer, you must respond to all messages promptly. Ghosting will not be tolerated! During PhysPOP week itself, you must be especially responsive to messages and calls. All counselors are “on call” during PhysPOP week in case of emergencies. Again, if you have any conflict or issue, notify the head counselors in advance.
Community: Although we host some educational events, PhysPOP is first and foremost a community-building activity. During our formally organized events and the free banter in between, make the prefrosh feel welcome—like they belong to their new community. Our students will come from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds so their first week at MIT may feel overwhelming. You, the counselor, can help ease that feeling by talking and engaging with them. We expect you to be available, approachable, and respectful to our students.
