Introduction to Computer Programming in Python   2022 - 26, 27, 30, 31 May - QUB Development Weeks

**Quick summary** - everybody is welcome - sign up for as many days as you are able to come to - everyone will work at their own pace and there will be people to help you as you learn programming. This course will be held in person and online through Teams. (People are expected to attend both morning and afternoon each day that they attend - and attendance can be *part* of a degree plus application not the whole of it - see below).

This course will provide an opportunity to get started in the computer programming language Python. No experience is required - no prior knowledge will be assumed. Students with some programming experience are also welcome. .... The aim is to get started or get more experience in Python.

This course will be in person, but there is also an option to join it online. Apply early; places are limited.

This course is open to all QUB students - you will need a QUB student login to participate in the course.
All QUB students can sign up, but if there is pressure on places then up until Wednesday 10th May priority will go to maths and physics students.

If this course is overbooked priority will be given to the following groups of students in the following order;
* Students taking Applied Maths and Physics/ Theoretical Physics/ Physics with extended studies in Europe/ Maths with extended studies in Europe
* Maths and Physics students who sign up before or on Wednesday 10th May.
* Time applied for course, first come first served

This course will be delivered in person and online. We aim to interact with everyone online so that it is not just a case of reading material and trying following instructions - there will be people to help you work through the course material. We can only support  a certain number of people, which means that numbers are restricted so please sign up as early as you can for this if you are interested.

To be able to take this course you will need....
In person
** A working QUB login, and to be able to come onto campus for the sessions.
Online
* a computer with access to the internet + speakers/earphones/microphone connected to the computer

You will not need to download any software, but you will need to work on various webpages to participate in the course. Full details will be sent ahead of time by email.

Note that the primary objective is to deliver a course to help people to learn programming. It does not matter if you have no prior experience or lots of experience programming. The aim is that everyone will find some material that will challenge them in one way or another.

Each session is based on the principle of people learning at their own pace working through material supplied and so there is some flexibility with the course material you will work on in each session. This flexibility means that you can catch up on material if you are not available for a session.

This course may be part of an application for Degree Plus, though there may not be time to use it as part of an application to graduate with Degree Plus this summer.

Finally, you are welcome to sign up with friends - often people working on the course find it beneficial to work with their friends in person or online whilst chatting over whatsapp/messenger etc.

NB places will be confirmed by email - so please keep an eye on your email.  - and please double check your email address is correct so that we can communicate with you.
