Late Fines Community Feedback
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on fines at Whitinsville Social Library.

Fine Free Fridays started on October 14, 2022 and runs through December 31, 2023. On Fridays people can return items from any library to WSL and the late fines are forgiven. Late fines on materials for children and teens were eliminated in December 2021. Patrons are still responsible for paying the replacement cost on items that are lost, damaged, or never returned.

Whitinsville Social Library belongs to a large consortium of public libraries in central and western Massachusetts called CWMARS. Out of the 158 libraries in that group, 16 charge late fines on their items including WSL.

The Whitinsville Social Library Board of Trustees are in charge of voting and approving all policies for the library - including late fines. The library's operating budget does not depend on the revenue generated from late fines.
