At Horizan VC, we’re committed to being the earliest investor in the UK and EU. However, we’ve noticed two common challenges that stop idea stage founders from achieving their dreams:

They commit to a business idea too early, rather than testing a bunch at one time. This limits the amount of shots they have at success. Subsequently, this leads to a “rushed pre-seed” where a founder tries to get to that stage as fast as possible without actually looking at the quality of idea/business (but creates short term progress satisfaction)

Many don’t know how to test their business ideas effectively. Surveys have their place for understanding your customers, however, they aren’t a substitute for validating whether you have a quality idea in demand.

Pretotyping (pretend-prototyping) is the fastest and cheapest way to prove whether your business idea has any demand or not. But not just “yes on a survey” type of demand! We’re talking about “if your target market will give up something valuable in exchange for access to this idea” type of demand.

Here is our proposed course structure:
Session 1: Intro course: Learn how to pretotype, formulate your business idea, XYZ hypothesis, and pretotyping experiments
Sessions 2-4: Monitor and develop your experiments, advise on how to do a different way, pivot ideas if necessary
Session 5: Demo day!

You'll join live workshops with breakouts and Q&A. You'll be part of a tight-knit peer community to hold you accountable, get feedback on projects & exercises, and make new connections.

At the end of this course, we will have a special demo day where participants will present the results of their experiments to myself and our team, with one founder getting the chance to receive a 10K Convertible Future Earnings Agreement (https://horizanvc.substack.com/p/breaking-down-our-cfea-terms) on the spot! However, even those who don’t win can apply to us and go through our application process. Sometimes we’ll invest in 4 from 1 cohort; other times, we may only invest in 1!
