Application process:
Committee members will review forms received on a quarterly basis and invite new members to join an upcoming committee meeting to give it a try and see what they think. The committee is currently entirely represented with white women. Expanding it means addition of Black and Brown people, representation of the entire state, and committee members committed not only to their personal anti-racism work but also willing to ask hard questions and guide and support OFMA's internal and external anti-racism work.

The Oregon Farmers Markets Association is an energetic and engaged nonprofit providing support, promotion, and educational opportunities for farmers markets in Oregon. In July 2019 the OFMA board of directors wanted to infuse its decision-making with a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens and created this committee to hold itself accountable towards this value.
Internal goals
Short term - Develop internal DEI Statement, explicitly leading with anti-racism
Long term - Assess OFMA policies and practices to move away from a white-dominate culture of working together, hiring, recruiting , holding meetings, etc.
External goals
Short term - DEI workshop at 2021 OFMA annual mtg.
Long term - Move beyond food access at the consumer level into labor issues and land access issues. Created tools and resources for farmers markets to incorporate and act on equity + racial justice.
How we work together
Monthly committee meetings currently take place by video call on the 3rd Monday of the month at 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM.
Volunteer time on the committee includes attending monthly meetings plus an additional 3 to 5 hours of committee work between calls. Hours may be concentrated to different times of the year, depending on the work being done (planning for OFMA's Annual Meeting for example).
We use Google Drive and other Gsuite applications to share documents and work on projects together.
White people on this committee are expected to also always be doing their own internal and self discovery work on anti-racism.
