"Quaker" or "Friend"? An informal survey
It's often said that the term "Quakers" and the term "Friends" are synonymous, although local usages and preferences vary among English-speaking Friends, and may have changed over time. I'd love to know which term you prefer, for which occasions and contexts, and why. Here's a short survey for your input.

The first set of questions is for current members and attenders of Friends or Quaker congregations, followed by a set of questions for those not in Friends or Quaker congregations.

You can answer as many or as few questions as you like.

If you're currently a Friend or Quaker ...
In this section, we'd like to know your preferences for yourself and those you attend meeting or church with. (If you're not a Friend/Quaker, I have questions for you further down.)
Which term do you prefer for yourself and those you currently attend meeting or church with?
Clear selection
If "Both": What occasions or contexts does your choice depend on?
If "Neither/other": What is your preferred term, if any? (And why?)
Do you call your current congregation a "church" or a "meeting"?
Clear selection
Here's a place to comment on your use of "Church," "Meeting," "Both," or "Other."
Bonus questions! During your time as a Friend or Quaker, have you attended meetings and churches which differed from each other in the terms they used? Have you, for example, been a member or attender in a congregation that preferred "church" and also in a different congregation that preferred "meeting"? If your different congregations all called themselves "meetings," were some programmed (including planned elements in the worship such as a sermon) and others unprogrammed? And did your different congregations have any preferences regarding the terms "Friends" and "Quakers"?
What country or what U.S. state are you in?
Which of the following terms best describe where you are in the Quaker theological world? (It's OK to choose more than one; I would....)

NOTE: I just added two more categories based on reader comments. I'll try to adjust the stats to reflect comments made before this evening (November 4).
If you are not currently a Friend or Quaker ...
... your input is helpful for knowing, among other things, whether you find our usages useful, obscure, or totally mystifying!
Were the terms "Friends" and "Quakers" truly synonymous in your understanding (that is, before reading the intro to the survey)?
Clear selection
Which was the term most familiar to you in referring to the church/denomination/religious movement generally known as Friends and Quakers?
Clear selection
Which of these denominational names are you familiar with? (choose any number of options)
NOTE: Some are contemporary, some are historical.
If you wish, please comment on the three previous questions and why you chose the related options.
What country or what U.S. state are you in?
FOR EVERYONE: Any closing thoughts?
I plan to keep this survey open until the end of 2023.

If you'd like to comment directly to me, or would like to receive the results of the survey, write to me at johan@canyoubelieve.me. The results will also be published at blog.canyoubelieve.me.

If you write an e-mail to me, and you're not already a contact of mine, I will not use your e-mail address for any purpose other than a personal reply to you. I will not add it to any subscription list or give it to anyone else.

Finally, I'd be grateful to know if you've seen other surveys covering more or less the same questions.
