2023 Larry Reedy Scholarship Application

The $1,500 Larry Reedy Scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who will be pursuing study in the field of the performing arts or technical theatre arts (e.g., lighting, design, etc.) and who resides or attends school in Blackstone Valley (Pawtucket, Central Falls, Lincoln, Cumberland, Smithfield, North Smithfield, Burrillville, Glocester, Woonsocket, East Providence, Seekonk or Attleboro areas), or has at any time worked in some capacity with The Community Players. The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of:

Applicant’s talent and ability in his/her area of the arts

His /her current academic status and

The financial need of the applicant. 

The scholarship will be awarded without prejudice as to sex, race, creed, orientation and/or national origin.

REQUIREMENTS

The applicant must complete the scholarship application (Due March 31st)

The applicant must supply a copy of their current high school transcripts (Can be submitted on the day of the presentation)

The applicant must prepare a presentation, three to five minutes in length, for the Scholarship Committee. 

If the applicant will be pursuing studies in the Performing Arts, the presentation may be a song, dance, monologue, instrument, or presentation of some other aspect of the performing arts. A piano will be available in the theater.  The applicant must provide other instruments, music, cassette/CD player/sound device or accompanist, if needed.

If the applicant will be pursuing studies in the Technical Theatre Arts, a visual presentation of past work is required. The applicant must provide any visual presentation equipment or make arrangements for equipment with the scholarship chair.

Presentations will be scheduled on a Saturday in mid- April, date and time TBA, and will be held at Jenks Auditorium, 350 Division Street, Pawtucket, RI.  The Committee Chairperson will notify the applicant of their appointment time.

The applicant must submit letters of recommendation from:

A respected person in the applicant’s field of interest.

A teacher, counselor, or advisor of the applicant.

(None of the recommendations may come from a relative of the applicant)

The completed application must be submitted a by Friday, March 31, 2023 . Incomplete, inaccurate, or late submissions will not be considered. Transcripts and Letters of Recommendation can be brought in the day of the presentation.
