Stafford Sinfonia, one of the leading chamber orchestras in the Midlands, are looking for new members to join their ranks.

Performing at least three concerts a year of baroque, classical, romantic and light music to large and appreciative audiences in Stafford, the orchestra relishes performing well-known classics alongside lesser-known gems to a high standard and in their own distinctive style.

The orchestra are looking for the following permanent musicians:

2 x Violin (first or second players)
1 x Viola
1 x Double bass

We also sometimes require deputy or extra woodwind, horns, trumpets and percussion and would welcome applications to join our waiting/deputy list.

Players ought to be of at least grade 8 standard, though no formal grades are required, and should have a significant amount of orchestral experience.

Stafford Sinfonia is a leisure-time orchestra, and members pay a subscription of £9 per month to support the running costs of the organisation.

Appointment process

The Music Director will review each application - if there is a vacancy and the Music Director believes you may be suitable based on your application, you will be invited to a trial rehearsal, and subsequently a trial concert at the Music Director's discretion. Assuming both you and the Music Director agree, you will then be invited to join Stafford Sinfonia as a permanent member.

For wind, brass and percussion vacancies, musicians who have applied to be on the deputy/waiting list will be contacted as vacancies arise based on the information supplied at application. More able and more experienced musicians will be asked first. Deputy invitations to play in Stafford Sinfonia are extended when a member musician has had to withdraw from a rehearsal or concert for a reason such as a family emergency or illness, and as such these invitations may come at short notice.
