Instructions To The Monitor/Evaluator

The candidates shall be provided with a multi-story structure.
The candidates shall be given a charged hoseline with a nozzle.
The candidates shall be working as a team.
The candidates shall be informed by the evaluator which extinguishing method to be used. (direct, indirect, combination)
The candidates shall be given the instructions below before beginning the exercise.

Instructions To The Candidates

The candidates, given an a multi-story structure, a charged hoseline with a nozzle, and working as a team, shall demonstrate the procedures for attacking an interior fire utilizing the method given on an above grade floor with 100% accuracy.

Lead Firefighter - 9 Steps *

1) Wears full PPE

2) Coordinates with partner

3) Bleeds air from hoseline, adjusts nozzle to straight stream, and checks door for heat.

4) Stays out of doorway on side opposite the hinges

5) Enters building on unburned side

6) Advances to the stairwell by crawling

7) Advances up the stairwell by sitting or crawling keeping head up and feet down

8) Upon reaching the fire floor, advances to the fire room by crawling

9) Applies water using appropriate pattern (as directed by evaluator)

Backup Firefighter - 8 Steps *

1) Wears full PPE

2) Coordinates with partner

3) Stay out of doorway on side opposite the hinges and opens door slowly (chocks door open)

4) Advances to the stairwell by crawling

5) Feeds hose for the lead firefighter.

6) Advances up the stairwell by sitting or crawling keeping head up and feet down

7) Keeps the hose along the outside wall of the stairwell and keeps kinks out of hose

8) Advances to lead firefighter by following hose.

Required

Direct

Applies water directly to the base of the burning material in short bursts until fire darkens, using straight or solid stream.

Indirect

Applies water to the super heated gases at the ceiling, using a narrow fog stream, and moves the stream back and forth in short bursts until the fire darkens. (this pattern will be used from outside the fire room)

Combination

Applies water to the top of the superheated gases at the ceiling and then drops down to the burning material near the floor, using straight or solid stream using a "T" "Z" or "O" pattern in short bursts until the fire darkens.
