We hope you will join us for one or more Saturday DanceAbility Detroit workshops, offered alternately on Saturday mornings from 11am till 1pm and Saturday afternoons from 3 to 5:00 pm. These workshops take place in person at 8641 Linwood (formerly Light Box) and at outdoor locations in Detroit! Cara Graninger, certified DanceAbility teacher, will lead the workshops, along with periodic guest artists.
DanceAbility movement improvisation can be high-energy or slow and gentle, so come as you are. This class is for people with and without disabilities, with and without formal dance training to co-create dance in a diverse community. We'll practice sensing ourselves and one another to create dynamic dance/soundscapes together. Discover new possibilities to move through the world! These workshops are open to newcomers as well as folks with DanceAbility experience. LET US KNOW WHAT MUSIC YOU LIKE TO DANCE TO :-)
The address for indoor workshops is 8641 Linwood Street, Detroit. Enter the parking lot off of Linwood and use the side door from the lot. For all workshops, indoor and outdoors, we're ready to greet you a half hour before start time to allow for a spacious arrival.
ASL interpretation provided if requested at least three days prior to each workshop.
Same-room or outdoor nearby childcare provided if requested at least three days before each workshop.
We are asking people to disclose their vaccination status in advance so we can let registrants with immunity concerns know if there are unvaccinated people present. At this time, we are asking all dancers to wear masks during the indoor workshops. Anyone is also welcome to request that others physically distance from them during the workshop. We will have doors open at 8641 Linwood for indoor workshops to increase ventilation. MASKS ARE OPTIONAL AT OUTDOOR WORKSHOPS.
The cost is $0-$25 for each workshop. This is Economic Justice pricing--you decide how much to pay in that range based on your situation. DanceAbility Detroit is supported by Detroit Disability Power and the Michigan Arts & Culture Council, and by tuition from class participants with extra dollars to give.
